Carefully -very carefully- remove the platic plugs over the top of the bolts that clamp the bar holders together. The plugs are plated plastic and will chip or distort of you are not careful. There are 4 as I remember on each side. I had to pull the bars to ship mine -inside my van- from AK to WA state. I'd also suggest marking the position somehow so the adjustment time on reinstall is less. Max
